Softball Game Preview: McDowell Trojans vs. Mason County Royals

The McDowell Trojans will square off against the Mason County Royals at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mason County took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on McDowell, who comes in off a win.

Mason County's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Thursday: McDowell hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Trojans' pitcher stepped up to hand Elliott County a 15-0 shutout on Wednesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Trojans considering their two-run performance the match before.

McDowell let Ayva Mickel and Alexandra Smith run wild. Mickel scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Smith scored three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Mickel has posted since back in April of 2024. Madyalyn Matlock was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1.

Meanwhile, Mason County lost 11-1 to Taft on Tuesday. The Royals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mason County's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for McDowell, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.
