Baseball Recap: Liberty Comes Up Short

After a string of three wins, Liberty's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of the Lubbock Westerners by a score of 6-4.

Kaden Brewer was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two triples, one run, and one RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits. Levi Walker was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Brewer wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Liberty kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for Liberty: they were averaging 4.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 11.6.

Liberty now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Lubbock, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 9-4-1.

Looking ahead, Liberty will take on Pecos in a tournament on Saturday. Pecos has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.5 runs per game on average), something Liberty will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Lubbock, they will head out on the road to face off against Estacado at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
