Preview: Conway Springs Cardinals vs. Belle Plaine Dragons
Conway Springs is 8-2 against Belle Plaine since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Conway Springs Cardinals will head out on the road to square off against the Belle Plaine Dragons at 6:00 p.m. Conway Springs will be strutting in after a victory while Belle Plaine will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Tuesday, Conway Springs beat Chaparral 50-39. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Conway Springs.
Melissa Ebenkamp was her usual excellent self, scoring 13 points along with seven assists and seven steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last seven games she's played. Morgan Koester was another key contributor, scoring five points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Belle Plaine, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 59-44 loss to Cheney on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Belle Plaine can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 298th, while Cheney is ranked 65th).
Conway Springs has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-8 record this season. As for Belle Plaine, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.
Conway Springs beat Belle Plaine 42-33 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Conway Springs since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
