Basketball Recap: Bryce Mella's Big Game Can't Quite Lead American Fork over Timpview

American Fork was the 58-45 winner over Timpview when they last played one another back in December of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. The Cavemen fell just short of the Thunderbirds by a score of 62-60 on Wednesday.

Several Cavemen players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bryce Mella, who shot 47% from the field to rack up 21 points and five rebounds. The game was Mella's fifth in a row with at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Jax Clark, who went 6-for-11 en route to 13 points and eight boards.

Timpview's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Will Openshaw led the charge by putting up 15 points and eight rebounds. Openshaw has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last eight times he's played. Dean Rueckert was another key player, posting 12 points and five assists.

American Fork now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Timpview, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0.

Coming up, American Fork will take on Highland at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Timpview, they will square off against Foothill at 3:20 p.m. on December 5.
