Basketball Recap: Platteview Takes a Loss

Platteview lost against Gross Catholic back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Platteview Trojans took a 52-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gross Catholic Cougars.

Despite the loss, Platteview still got an impressive performance from Alexys Mandel, who posted 12 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Brea Weldon, who earned five points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Platteview smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Platteview dropped their record down to 3-7 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.7 points per game. As for Gross Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.

Platteview will take on Ashland-Greenwood at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Platteview is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.4 points per game this season. As for Gross Catholic, they will host Mercy at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
