Baseball Recap: Ephrata Takes a Loss

Hempfield hit Ephrata with a six-run fifth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mountaineers took a 12-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Black Knights. The Mountaineers haven't had much luck with the Black Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Ethan Hunt made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs. Chase Prange was another key player, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Ephrata's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Hempfield, their victory was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-0.

Ephrata and Hempfield should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The Mountaineers (ranked 44th) will meet Manheim Central (ranked 184th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Hempfield will square off against Manheim Township at 4:15 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (4 vs. 66). The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Black Knights 3.6, the Blue Streaks 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
