Basketball Game Preview: Sand Creek Scorpions vs. Green Mountain Rams

The Sand Creek Scorpions will challenge the Green Mountain Rams on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Sand Creek sitting on four straight victories and Green Mountain on seven.

Sand Creek is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Cheyenne Mountain 59-57. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Scorpions have posted since February 6, 2024.

Sand Creek's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Damian Marrow, who posted 15 points and six boards. Those 15 points gave Marrow a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mathew Starks, who shot 60% from the field en route to 13 points and seven rebounds.

Sand Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Lutheran typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Green Mountain proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Lions by a score of 55-42.

Green Mountain's win came from a few key players Sand Creek will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Simon Lunsford, who went 9-for-17 to rack up 20 points and six boards. His evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Tre Gutierrez was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Green Mountain's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-9. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.7 points over those games. As for Sand Creek, their record is now 20-6.
