Baseball Recap: South Pike's Losing Streak Snapped at Three Games

South Pike barely beat Amite County the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles' pitcher stepped up to hand the Trojans a 12-0 shutout on Tuesday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Eagles' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

The team relied heavily on Demiquis Anders, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Michael Weatherspoon, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3.

With the win, South Pike broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-9-1. As for Amite County, their defeat was their 20th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-18.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. South Pike will challenge Seminary at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 10.8 runs per game this season. As for Amite County, they will face off against Pisgah at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Dragons will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight.
