Basketball Recap: Travon Darby's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Red Mountain over Boulder Creek

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Red Mountain can now relate to. They received a blow on Wednesday as they fell 66-52 to the Boulder Creek Jaguars. While losing is never fun, the Mountain Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while the Jaguars are ranked sixth).

Red Mountain's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Travon Darby, who posted 17 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. Those five boards gave Darby a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anthony Gamba, who had 11 points.

Matthew Delgado continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Boulder Creek, going 7-for-13 to rack up 21 points. Delgado is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games he's played. Andrew Bhesania was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Red Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 20-6. As for Boulder Creek, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season.

Red Mountain does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Boulder Creek, they will take on Williams Field at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Boulder Creek's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 16 games.
