Baseball Recap: Switzerland County Comes Up Short

Switzerland County managed to slip by North Decatur the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Pacers lost 18-8 to the Chargers on Saturday. The Pacers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Chargers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

Zayne Smith was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent over his last six games. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Peyton Turner made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Brian Jones was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.

Switzerland County's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for North Decatur, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Switzerland County will take on Milan at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Pacers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season. As for North Decatur, they will head out on the road to face off against Knightstown at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Chargers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season.
