Soccer Recap: Covenant Day Comes Up Short

Covenant Day had taken Cannon down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Tuesday. While the 0-0 score might suggest a draw, it was the Cougars who were credited with the win. The Cannon Cougars got it done in the shootout by posting three goals to the Covenant Day Lions' one. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Covenant Day came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Cannon are ranked 67th).

Covenant Day's defeat dropped their record down to 11-5-2. As for Cannon, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 7-9-2 record.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Covenant Day will host Charlotte Country Day School at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Covenant Day will be up against Charlotte Country Day School's rather soft defense (which has allowed 2.69 goals per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Cannon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Charlotte Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cannon are facing Charlotte Christian at the right time seeing as Charlotte Christian are stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
