Football Preview: Lakeside Vikings vs. Decatur Bulldogs
After each having a week off, the Lakeside Vikings and the Decatur Bulldogs will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
Lakeside is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Chamblee just ended the team's four-game winning streak last Saturday. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 23-21. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Thomas Fortune, who picked up 105 receiving yards and a touchdown. He is becoming a predictor of Lakeside's success: when he posts at least 80 receiving yards the team is 3-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Kyle Davis was another key player, having thrown for 276 yards and two touchdowns.
Even if they lost, Lakeside's defense still kept up the pressure with five sacks. Justin Cammock was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up twohimself. Another thorn in Chamblee's side was Makhi Williams-Lee, who picked up a sack and made six total tackles (4.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Decatur put another one in the bag last Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down Shiloh 35-18. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 76th, while the Generals are ranked 227th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Barron Scott had an outrageously good game as he threw for 159 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 64 yards on only eight carries. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in October of 2023. Another player making a difference was Darius White, who rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
Lakeside's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Decatur, they pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
