Baseball Recap: West Albany Comes Up Short

West Albany extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 18-9. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Corvallis Spartans. If the Bulldogs were looking for revenge after losing 4-1 to the Spartans when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Corvallis, they are on a roll lately: they've won 21 of their last 22 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 27-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.

For Corvallis' part, Ben Weiss was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Weiss was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Weiss wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Roy Bannister, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double. Cole Badger was another, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

While West Albany had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
