Baseball Recap: Pine Grove Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Pine Grove had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against the Schuylkill Valley Panthers by a score of 6-3 on Thursday.

Quinn Brommer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Pine Grove's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chandler Sirbaugh, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Pine Grove was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The win got Pine Grove back to even at 6-6. As for Schuylkill Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-9.

Pine Grove and Schuylkill Valley could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The Cardinals (ranked 286th) will meet Tamaqua (ranked 27th) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Schuylkill Valley will square off against Oley Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (350 vs. 143).
