Basketball Game Preview: Alameda Pirates vs. Arvada Bulldogs

The Alameda Pirates are taking a road trip to challenge the Arvada Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Alameda's defense has only allowed 28.3 points per game this season, so Arvada's offense will have their work cut out for them.

While Alameda didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Englewood by a score of 31-24 on Tuesday. The 31-point effort marked Alameda's lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Alameda can attribute much of their success to Victoria Sandoval, who posted ten points and eight steals. Sandoval is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Brianna Garcia, who earned nine points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Arvada entered their tilt with The Pinnacle on Thursday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victor by a 48-23 margin over the Timberwolves. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 21 points or more this season.

Arvada is also on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.8 points per game. As for Alameda, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.

Alameda came up short against Arvada in their previous meeting back in February of 2020, falling 37-30. Thankfully for Alameda, Jasmine Morales (who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 boards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
