Softball Recap: Danville Starts off Right with Win over Shamokin Area

Danville took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. They blew past the Shamokin Area Indians 19-9. For the Ironmen, this counts as revenge for the 6-5 victory the Indians walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2022.

Maclin Hickey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Danville got a massive performance out of Abby Haught, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Haught a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marleigh Davis, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.

Danville wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 16-2 win against Milton on the 19th. As for Shamokin Area, they have also already played their next contest, a 14-4 defeat against North Schuylkill on the 21st.
