Football Preview: Plano West Wolves vs. McKinney Lions
The Plano West Wolves are taking a road trip to challenge the McKinney Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Plano West is looking for their season's first win.
Plano West will head into Friday's contest ready to turn things around: they lost a close one when they played last Thursday but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on Friday was a bit more commanding. They lost 35-14 to Plano. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 652nd, while the Wildcats are ranked 162nd).
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask McKinney). They blew past Princeton 62-27 on the road on Friday. With that victory, the Lions brought their scoring average up to 30.4 points per game.
Jeremiah Daoud was his usual excellent self, throwing for 429 yards and six touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also punching in two touchdowns on the ground. Khristian Mackintrush did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 145 receiving yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to McKinney's defense and their six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Cam Pettijohn and Riley Pettijohn, who racked up four sacks between them. Riley is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made eight or more in the last 16 games he's played dating back to last season.
Plano West's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for McKinney, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Things could have been worse for Plano West, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 29-14 loss to McKinney when the teams last played back in October of 2019. Can Plano West avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
