Baseball Recap: Michigan City Takes a Loss

Michigan City had lost seven straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-11 to make it eight. They lost 18-2 to the La Porte Slicers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wolves of the 8-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Zaire McKinney made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Derrek Fowler also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

As for La Porte, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-9 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On La Porte's side, Cody Ryden tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts Ryden has posted since back in May of 2024.

On the hitting side, Gage Raymond was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chad Rusboldt, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

While Michigan City had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
