Basketball Recap: New Covenant Christian Sets Scoring Season-High Against Harrisburg Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask New Covenant Christian). They put the hurt on the Harrisburg Academy Spartans with a sharp 85-60 win on Friday. The score was close at the half, but the Flames pulled away in the second half with 52 points.

New Covenant Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Talan VanderPloog led the charge by putting up 28 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. With that strong performance, VanderPloog is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game. Another player making a difference was Grayden Summers, who posted 23 points along with eight assists and seven boards.

New Covenant Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

The victory got New Covenant Christian back to even at 7-7. As for Harrisburg Academy, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Covenant Christian will face off against Lititz Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Harrisburg Academy, they will square off against Harrisburg Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
