Football Recap: Keys Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Keys can now relate to. They were outmatched by the Vian Wolverines and fell 63-14. The loss continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Wolverines: they've now lost eight in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Keys lost on Friday, don't look at Ryder Davis. Despite the final result, he threw for 173 yards and two TDs. Tanner Starr also helped with two scores in total.

Keys didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Clint Brown and Garret Lemasters.

Vian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Draighton Fletcher, who rushed for 167 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 14 carries. Those 167 rushing yards gave Fletcher a new career-high. Masyn Wright was another key player, gaining 140 total yards and three touchdowns.

Keys now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Vian, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 10-1.

Keys does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Vian, they will host Dibble at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 996 yards in their previous games.
