Softball Recap: Rancho Takes Down Cimarron-Memorial in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Rancho had no trouble coming through when it counted. They came out on top against the Cimarron-Memorial Spartans by a score of 16-11 on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won six in a row.

Brooklynn Braun was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Annalise Stout, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Alainna Weber was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Rancho kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.9 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.

Rancho's win bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Cimarron-Memorial, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-11.
