Wellington had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Everything went their way against the Alamosa Mean Moose on Friday as they made off with a 14-4 win. Considering the Eagles have won 13 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Taylor Morgan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Camryn Strain was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in September. Scarlet McGuire was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Wellington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alamosa only posted an OBP of .417.
The victory was the fourth in a row for Wellington, bringing their record up to 22-4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Alamosa, their loss dropped their record down to 16-11.
As of now, neither Wellington nor the Mean Moose have any future games scheduled.
