Venice and Charlotte are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Venice Indians will host the Charlotte Fightin' Tarpons at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
On Friday, everything went Venice's way against Lemon Bay as Venice made off with a 13-3 victory. Considering the Indians have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Jayde Neptune looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up a single walk any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Venice let Raionna Smith and Addison Queen run wild. Smith scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Queen went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most runs Smith has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Molly Sullivan, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Venice kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lemon Bay only managed six hits.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Charlotte). They came out on top against Manatee by a score of 11-8 on Thursday. With that win, the Fightin' Tarpons brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Dava Hoffer made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Hoffer was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addi Recker, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Grace Lewin was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run.
Charlotte's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Venice, their win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Venice hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .381. However, it's not like Charlotte struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Venice couldn't quite get it done against Charlotte when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Can Venice avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
