Two dominant backs in Ben Schmitz and Carter Eickmeier are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Boyd County Spartans will square off against the Shelby-Rising City Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Boyd County has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight losses, while Shelby-Rising City will come in with eight straight wins.
Boyd County is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Crofton on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Spartans lost 42-16 to the Warriors. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-0.

Boyd County's defeat came about despite a quality game from Charlie Adams, who rushed for 82 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 58 yards and one TD while completing 80% of his passes. The Spartans also got a significant boost from Barrett Koenig, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 94 yards.
Meanwhile, Shelby-Rising City got themselves on the board against McCool Junction on Friday, but McCool Junction never followed suit. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Mustangs 36-0. Given the Huskies' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Mustangs are ranked 42nd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Boyd County better keep an eye on Logan Lindsley. He was instrumental in Shelby-Rising City's win, rushing for 39 yards and one score, while also throwing for four yards and one touchdown. An impressive showing, but Lindsley really ramped things up playing D: he made 12 total tackles and defended one pass.
Shelby-Rising City was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 292 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McCool Junction only rushed for 101.
Boyd County's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Shelby-Rising City, their victory bumped their record up to 8-0.
Thursday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Boyd County has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 288.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Shelby-Rising City struggles in that department as they've been averaging 222 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
