League recap: Melcher-Dallas exits state Top 25 after defeat

8-Man District 5 (8 Man) recap Oct. 3, 2012

Melcher-Dallas suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 33-8 loss to H-L-V. The Saints had been ranked 20th, but fell to 27 following the defeat.

Meskwaki Settlement was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in 8-Man District 5 (8 Man). Earlier in the week, Meskwaki Settlement defeated Ankeny Christian Academy 64-62.

Tri-County's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Nick Watts threw for 138 and one touchdown and Spencer Steinke had 73 yards receiving. On the ground Tyler Lally chipped in 26 yards. Lally helped Tri-County's passing attack out by catching three balls for 34 yards.

Tri-County's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Trojans feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Watts has thrown for 501 yards and six touchdowns this season, while Steinke has 20 catches for 350 yards. Jake Brumbaugh leads the league in rushing with 78 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Melcher-Dallas takes on Wayne. C. Petersen's team is in third place, while the Falcons are in first place.

Wayne extended the longest winning streak in 8-Man District 5 (8 Man) this week by beating the Trojans, 50-8. The victory was the sixth in a row for Bart Elliott's team.
