Softball Recap: Frederick Golden Eagles vs. Rifle Bears

After only two runs in their last game, Frederick made sure to put some runs up on the board against Rifle on Friday. The Frederick Golden Eagles put the hurt on the Rifle Bears with a sharp 16-1 victory. The Golden Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by eight runs or more this season.

Payton Torres made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Torres was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Frederick let Izzy Horne and Brealea Stendel loose on the outfield. Horne went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double, while Stendel scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Eva Purnell, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Frederick always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .520. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rifle only posted an OBP of .182.

Frederick is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for Rifle, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-4.

Frederick will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Roosevelt at 1:00 p.m. Roosevelt will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Frederick surely won't give up without a fight. As for Rifle, they will challenge Air Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Rifle has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
