Basketball Recap: Laurel Skates Past Quitman with Ease

Laurel extended their winning streak to five on Tuesday, bumping them up to 10-1. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 62-31 victory over the Quitman Panthers. The Golden Tornadoes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 24 points or more this season.

Laurel had a senior duo take command as Gracelyn Carmichael posted 13 points and six steals and Kayllis Walker went 5-for-10 on her way to 15 points along with six rebounds and six steals. The matchup was Walker's third in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Jahyla Dubose, who shot 60% from the field to rack up 14 points and three steals.

Laurel smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

As for Quitman, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-5. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 80th, while Laurel is ranked fourth).

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was KA'LEY MOODY, who put up ten points.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Laurel will venture away from home to face off against Starkville at 2:40 p.m. on Saturday. The Golden Tornadoes will need to watch out since the Yellowjackets have now posted at least 55 points in their last three matchups. As for Quitman, they will head out on the road to challenge Noxubee County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
