Salem is 0-9 against the Lakers since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Salem Generals will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lake George Lakers at 6:00 p.m. Salem is out to stop a 18-game streak of losses at home dating back to last season.
Last Tuesday, things could have been worse for Salem, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 50-31 loss to the Flying Forts. Salem was down 40-19 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Defeat or not, Salem got some senior leadership from Josh Harrington and David Miller. Harrington almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds, while Miller. scored six points along with ten rebounds and two steals. It was the first time this season that Miller pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiernan Haskell, who scored two points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Lake George earned a 50-40 win over the Eagles on Tuesday. Given Lake George's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while the Eagles are ranked 694th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lake George's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sam Burns, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds. Angelo Bergman was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with five steals.
Salem's loss dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Lake George, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Salem have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Lake George struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Salem suffered a grim 53-28 defeat to the Lakers in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Will Salem have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other basketball content.
