Basketball Recap: Ian Gonzalez Key Part of a Team Effort in Generals Win

Shafter won the last time they faced Kennedy and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Shafter Generals secured a 43-38 W over the Kennedy Thunderbirds. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Generals.

Shafter got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ian Gonzalez out in front who posted 13 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Hector Cruz, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards.

Kennedy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alize Garcia, who went 5 for 12 en route to 14 points. Garcia continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Zaragoza, who had three points in addition to five rebounds and four blocks.

Shafter has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-7 record this season. As for Kennedy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-8.

Shafter didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-23 victory against Wasco on the 16th. Kennedy has also already played their next contest, a 53-51 defeat against Chavez on the 16th.
