Football Recap: Maud Takes a Loss

Maud had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 0-4 to make it four. They were outmatched by the Overton Mustangs and fell 49-22. The Cardinals were not able to make up for their defeat to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in September of 2024.

As for Overton, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Rylan Holleman produced another solid effort rushing for 134 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only ten carries, while also throwing for 137 yards and two TDs while completing 77.8% of his passes. His longest rush was for an impressive 51 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Gabriel Miller was another key player, rushing for 75 yards and two scores on only ten carries.

Maud and Overton will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Cardinals will take on rival Detroit at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th. Meanwhile, Overton is set to challenge their familiar foe Grapeland at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th.
