Baseball Game Preview: Destin Sharks vs. Baker Gators

The Destin Sharks will venture away from home to challenge the Baker Gators at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Destin can't be to happy about their upcoming road matchup considering what happened when they opened their season on the away from home on Thursday. They came up short against Bozeman, falling 11-1. The Sharks haven't had much luck with the Bucks recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Destin saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Vance Kirby, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Baker never let their opponents score on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 10-0 margin over Rocky Bayou Christian. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Gators considering their one-run performance the game before.

Joel Morse made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Morse was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Austin Stanley was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Ty Fernandez, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

Everything went Destin's way against Baker in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, as Destin made off with a 10-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Destin since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
