Baseball Game Preview: Bishop McDevitt Crusaders vs. Hershey Trojans

The Bishop McDevitt Crusaders will take on the Hershey Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Bishop McDevitt's last matchup with Red Land could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Tuesday. The Crusaders lost 17-11 to the Patriots. The Crusaders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Easton Comp stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Bishop McDevitt is 2-1 when Comp posts two or more runs, but 6-8 otherwise. Vince Leoni was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Hershey beat Carlisle 5-1 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Trojans.

Colton Fultz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Blake Umberger was incredible, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Grant Later, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs.

Hershey hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carlisle struck out ten times.

Hershey's win bumped their record up to 5-12. As for Bishop McDevitt, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
