Game recap: Downey's Zwahlen torches Gregori for five touchdowns

Aaron Zwahlen threw for five touchdowns as Downey (Modesto, Calif.) defeated Gregori (Modesto, Calif.) 52-14 on Saturday.

The Knights were up 49-0 at the half after taking the lead on a defensive touchdown in the first quarter.

Downey put up 28 points in the first quarter en route to the win. DHS scored on a defensive touchdown, a Zwahlen touchdown pass to Richard Lopez, a touchdown pass by Zwahlen to Tristan Best and a Zwahlen touchdown pass to Michael Falepouono in the quarter.

Nate Phillips played well for Gregori. He threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored six touchdowns on the season.

The Knights came in allowing an average of 20.4 points per game this season. Downey held firm on the defensive front, and kept GHS well below the 23.0 points it had been averaging per game.



DHS also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 70-14.

The loss comes after Gregori defeated Modesto 20-17 last week. With the win the Knights extended their winning streak to four games.

Gregori (1-5) will play a Modesto Metro game against Enochs next week, while Downey (5-1) will take on Modesto also in a Modesto Metro game.
