The Cypress Lakes Spartans will square off against the Waller Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
If Cypress Lakes beats Waller with 18 runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. Cypress Lakes was the clear victor by an 18-1 margin over Cypress Park on Friday. With that victory, the Spartans brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Brianna Davila made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Cypress Lakes got a massive performance out of Zahria Ceaser, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was Ceaser's first of the season. Brooklyn Forward was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
Cypress Lakes hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Waller had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Everything went their way against the Wildcats as they made off with a 9-1 win.
Like Cypress Lakes, Waller also got a great game from a two-way player: MaKenzie Dillon. She struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Dillon has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.
In other batting news, Waller let Eliana Espinoza and Isabella Gonzales run wild. Espinoza went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI, while Gonzales got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Bachmann, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
The victory made it two in a row for Cypress Lakes and bumps their season record up to 8-12. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 10.5 hits in those games compared to only 3.33 in the others. As for Waller, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-14.
Cypress Lakes might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Waller in their previous meeting back in February. Will Cypress Lakes have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
