Softball Game Preview: Zephyrhills Bulldogs vs. Academy at the Lakes Wildcats

The Zephyrhills Bulldogs will square off against the Academy at the Lakes Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

After dropping their season opener at home, Academy at the Lakes is headed out to face a Bulldogs squad ready to give their home crowd a win. Zephyrhills fell just short of Sunlake by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Seahawks recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Hannah Helms made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 3-for-4. What's more, she also posted three hits, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cali Sisto, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Academy at the Lakes kicked off their season on the road on Tuesday and hit a couple of potholes. They lost 16-8 to Cypress Creek. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Wildcats have suffered since March 8, 2024.

Kiana Wright was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis (Lou) Gattuso, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
