Basketball Recap: Unaka's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Unaka had won two straight games and Michelle Shields did her part to make it three on Friday. The Unaka Rangers breezed by the Washburn Pirates to the tune of 64-35 thanks in part to Shields, who went 7 of 15 on her way to 19 points. She is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 16 or more in the last six games she's played.

The team also got some help courtesy of Keyona Hague, who posted six points and 13 rebounds. That's the most boards she has posted since back in December of 2023.

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Saylor Clay, who put up 16 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Taylie Proffitt, who had nine points.

Unaka pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 34.3 points. As for Washburn, their loss ended an 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-2.

Unaka will head out on the road to square off against Twin Springs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Unaka's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three matches. As for Washburn, they will welcome University School at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
