Softball Recap: Newport's Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Newport entered their tilt with Davenport on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 15-14 W against the Gorillas.

Lili Hall made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Newport got a massive performance out of Genica Kreider, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. What's more, Kreider posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bella Boyd, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Newport kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matchups.

Newport's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Davenport, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.

Coming up, Newport is taking a road trip to challenge Riverside at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Rams have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11 runs per game on average), something the Grizzlies will no doubt try to take advantage of. Davenport will be paying especially close attention to Newport's contest: after Newport faces off against Riverside, they'll take on Davenport again at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
