After a string of eight wins, Kirkwood's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell 2-0 to the Howell Central Spartans. If the Pioneers were looking for revenge after losing 2-0 to the Spartans when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

The 2-0 score doesn't really reflect how close the match was: every set was decided by exactly three points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-22.

Luke Martinez paced Kirkwood's offense, picking up 12 kills. Martinez got some help from Alec Gates and his 23 assists. Martinez was also solid from the service line: he led the team with four aces.

Kirkwood's defeat dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Howell Central, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 26-3-2.

Kirkwood has already played their next matchup, a 2-0 loss against North Point on the 3rd. As for Howell Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 2-0 win against Nixa on the 3rd.
