Basketball Recap: Patrick Henry Academy's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Patrick Henry Academy came into Saturday's match having lost eight straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 71-62 victory over the Andrew Jackson Academy Warriors on Saturday. This was a revenge game for the Patriots: when they faced off against the Warriors back in December of 2024, they had to take a 95-72 defeat.

Patrick Henry Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mikell Tucker Mathis, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 17 boards. Mathis is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Rowen Croft was another key player, going 10 for 18 on his way to 26 points.

Patrick Henry Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hayden McClung, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gage Dicks, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 14 points.

Patrick Henry Academy's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-10. As for Andrew Jackson Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 11-5.

Patrick Henry Academy will head out to take on Cathedral Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Patrick Henry Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.3 points per game this season. As for Andrew Jackson Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Beaufort Academy at 7:00 p.m. Andrew Jackson Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 contests -- so hopefully Beaufort Academy likes a good challenge.
