Softball Recap: Sonora Takes a Loss

Sonora fell victim to Villa Park and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Spartans, falling 6-0. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 10, 2025, but that streak is no more.

Sonora got a good showing from Gabriela Montano, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Montano has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sonora saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Samantha Jaimes, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

Sonora's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-10. As for Villa Park, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-11.

Sonora and Villa Park could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Raiders (ranked 375th) will meet El Dorado (ranked 107th) at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Villa Park will challenge St. Paul at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (246 vs. 111).
