Basketball Recap: Gabe Spann Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Buford

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but NorthPoint Christian Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They secured a 71-67 W over the Buford Yellow Jackets. The win was all the more spectacular given the NightHawks' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 540th in North Carolina, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 258th in South Carolina).

NorthPoint Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gabe Spann led the charge by going 10-for-21 on his way to 25 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. Thanks to that strong game, Spann now owns an excellent 45% shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Chelan Chudgar, who went 10-for-24 en route to 31 points and four steals.

When it comes to explaining why Buford lost, don't look at Gage McManus. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine boards. McManus has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last three times he's played. Samir Thompson also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

NorthPoint Christian Academy now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Buford, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season.

NorthPoint Christian Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 70-37 victory against Providence Classical on the 11th. As for Buford, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 69-41 loss against Central on the 7th.
