The Drury Blue Devils will head out to take on the Smith Academy Falcons at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Drury is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.

Drury is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Mount Anthony, who was ranked second in their home state at the time (Drury was ranked 23rd). The Blue Devils took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots on Tuesday. The matchup marked the Blue Devils' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Drury saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julian Faliciano, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. That double marked the first that Faliciano has hit this season.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Smith Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They skirted past Mahar Regional 2-1. The win was some much needed relief for the Falcons as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Harrison LaFlamme spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has become a key player for Smith Academy: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 0-6 otherwise.

Having lost for the first time this season, Drury fell to 9-1. As for Smith Academy, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-7.

Smith Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Drury has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .520. It's a different story for Smith Academy, though, as they've only averaged .342. Will they be able to contain Drury's hitters?

Everything went Drury's way against Smith Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Drury made off with a 13-5 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
