Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Carmichaels). They never let the Avella Eagles get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory on Wednesday. The win was just business as usual for the Mighty Mikes, who after ten games remain undefeated this season.
Bailey Barnyak made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Carmichaels got a massive performance out of Kaitlyn Waggett, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave Waggett a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ke'Lani Chun, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Carmichaels always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Avella only posted an OBP of .118.
Carmichaels' victory was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0. As for Avella, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.
Coincidentally, Carmichaels and Avella will both be playing Bethlehem Center the next time they take the field. The Eagles will host the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Mighty Mikes will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
