Softball Recap: South Point Comes Up Short

After flying high against Lincolnton last Thursday, South Point came back down to earth. The South Point Red Raiders fell just short of the Forestview Jaguars by a score of 8-7 on Friday. The Red Raiders were not able to make up for their defeat to the Jaguars from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Stella Absher spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Annie Risk made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ella Gibson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

South Point's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Forestview, the victory snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 2-5 record.

South Point didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 6-0 defeat against Kings Mountain on the 18th. As for Forestview, they have also already played their next contest, a 20-0 win against Huss on the 18th.
