Softball Game Preview: Avalon Eagles vs. Mildred Eagles

We've got a battle between Eagles coming up. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Avalon has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Mildred will arrive with four straight victories.

Avalon came up short against LaPoynor on Friday, falling 21-3.

Meanwhile, Mildred won against Cayuga on Tuesday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. Mildred beat Cayuga by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 15-1.

Claire Spruce was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off nine hits. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Krislynn Owen, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Preslee Kittrell was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.

Mildred always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cayuga only posted an OBP of .214.

Mildred pushed their record up to 8-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Avalon, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.
