Football Recap: Pomona Beats Coronado for Their Seventh Straight Win + How To Watch

It's playoff time, and Pomona had no trouble coming through when it counted. They claimed a resounding 45-13 win over the Coronado Cougars. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 13th, while the Cougars are ranked 74th) , the win on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pomona's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tucker Ingersoll, who rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, and also threw for 86 yards and one TD. Those two rushing touchdowns gave Ingersoll a new career-high. Luis Santana was another key back, rushing for 94 yards and one score.

Another reason for the win was Pomona's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Javon Barnard and Maddux Najera, who racked up all four sacks between them.

Despite the loss, Coronado still got an impressive performance from Thomas Buckmiller, who threw for 306 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 46 yards. Buckmiller's passing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 306 passing yards. A healthy portion of Buckmiller's aerial production (107 yards to be exact) went to Oliver Bushman.

The victory (which was Pomona's seventh in a row) raised their record to 10-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.1 points over those games. As for Coronado, they moved to 7-4 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Coming up, Pomona will be playing at home against Lutheran at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Panthers will need to watch out since the Lions have now posted at least 31 points in their last seven contests. Coronado does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
