Mountain View (Mesa, Ariz.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 10 in Arizona, but was stunned by
Pinnacle (Phoenix, Ariz.), 28-25. Pinnacle was ranked at No. 16 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Arizona coming into the week.
The teams went into the locker room at halftime deadlocked at 14. The Pioneers took the lead indefinitely on a passing touchdown in the third quarter.
Pinnacle led by as many as 11 points before the Toros cut into the final margin.
When the two teams played each other last season, PHS came away with a 35-10 victory.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Phoenix school, which was coming off a 35-21 defeat at the hands of Basha in its previous game. The defeat comes as a step back for Mountain View, which notched a 51-16 victory over Perry in its previous outing. The victory ended Pinnacle's two-game losing streak.
