Baseball Game Preview: Sweetwater Wildcats vs. Loudon Redskins

The Sweetwater Wildcats will square off against the Loudon Redskins at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Sweetwater's favor as the squad sits on nine straight wins at home while Loudon has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

On Wednesday, Sweetwater came out on top against Roane County by a score of 4-2 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Loudon and Lenoir City, and Loudon kept the tradition alive. The Redskins narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Panthers 6-4. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Redskins as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Loudon got a great performance from Boston Montooth as he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Montooth a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jayden Capshaw, who scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Brycen Cosner, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-2.

Sweetwater is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Loudon, their win bumped their record up to 7-11.
