Softball Recap: Dayton Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Victory

Dayton won against Kingwood Park last Tuesday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Dayton was the clear victor by a 10-1 margin over the Pasadena Eagles. Winning may never get old, but the Broncos sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

Jess Woods spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Ariana Zuniga was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Bella Barziza was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run.

Zuniga wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Dayton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for Dayton: they were averaging 4.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.4.

Dayton pushed their record up to 12-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Pasadena, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Dayton will take on rival Crosby at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Pasadena is set to challenge their familiar foe Porter at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
