Baseball Recap: Apopka Sets Scoring Season-High Against Wekiva

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Apopka). Everything went their way against the Wekiva Mustangs on Friday as Apopka made off with a 16-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Blue Darters, who have now won six contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Jarred Goodson and Maddox Stinson dominated on the mound. Goodson tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits, while Stinson tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Stinson has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ty Livingston was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Reef VanKuren also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Apopka has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. Wekiva has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Apopka will take on South Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South Lake will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Wekiva, they will face off against Mount Dora at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mount Dora will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Wekiva surely won't give up without a fight.
